Eyelash Extensions
After having your eyelash extensions applied, it doesn’t just stop there. If you want your lash extensions to last as long as possible between infills there are things you need to do and things you will need to avoid.
Things you should do:
Make sure you conduct some research on the best lash technicians in your area. It is important that you only go to a trained and qualified lash tech as going to someone who is not qualified can result in eye infections, damaged eyelashes and the result will more than likely not be what you want.
It is a good idea to have a break from any eyelash enhancements, especially eyelash extensions. After a few months or so you should take a break and let your lashes breathe and give them a little TLC. Apply some lash serums and oils as you will notice your real eyelashes are much more dry, brittle and weak than normal. Another reason you should give them a break is because the weight of the extensions can be hard on your lashes as it pulls them down. Many notice that they have more sparse natural eyelashes when they haven’t given their lashes a break for a while.
It is important that you brush through your extensions on a regular basis. This will prevent your lashes from being matted, tangled up and becoming clumpy. We recommend you brush through your lashes every morning and night and at any point you feel they could do with a brush. So what do I brush them with? You can brush them with either a clean mascara wand or a disposable mascara wand, these are super cheap and can be purchased here at georgelashes.com. It is particularly important to brush through your extensions if you have gone for fuller lashes such as hybrids or Russians as these tend to be the type of lashes that become knotted or matted. If you have classic extensions you may find you only need to brush through them once in the morning and at night.
Use a cleanser specially formulated to clean eyelash extensions. This is a great way to prolong the life of your extensions as it will only contain eyelash extension friendly ingredients where as other cleansers don’t take the use on lash extensions into account. When comes to cleaning your extensions it is recommended you do so every other day as this will prevent a build of dirt, dust and debris. The cleanser will also keep your lashes looking fresh and moisturised, think of it as a shampoo for your lashes.
If you are heading on a sunny holiday, it is recommended to wear sun glasses when you can as the heat from the sun melts the glue and your extensions will fall out much faster than if you was in a cool environment.
Make sure you book in for a refill in good time, there is nothing worse than leaving it last minute and not being able to book in for an infill. Depending on how fast your natural eyelashes grow the period of time you can leave them before an infill will vary. On average, you will usually need to have an infill every 2-3 weeks. Make sure you don’t leave it too long as you will have to get a full new set which will take much longer and you will have to pay for a full set rather than an infill.
Things you should not do:
Don’t go to your appointment with makeup on, especially around your eye area. Before heading to your appointment make sure you have deeply cleansed your eyelashes and eye area. If you have some remaining makeup on your lashes when you get extensions they will not last as the glue will not properly set on your real lashes properly.Don’t get your extensions or your eye area wet for 24 – 48 hours after having your extensions applied. The purpose of this is to make sure you have given enough time for the glue to properly set. If you was to get your extensions wet before the glue had set, some of your extensions would fall out prematurely. This also includes avoiding steam, hot temperatures and sweat from working out.
Don’t use any oil based products. This may mean you will need to change some of your makeup and skincare products to oil free products. You will also need to switch to a oil free makeup remover. Yes this is a pain, but if you want your eyelash extensions to last it is something you must do. The oil in the products will cause your extensions to fall out prematurely as it will break down the glue.
Don’t pull or pick your lashes out. Yes sometimes you may feel that some of the extensions are grown out and need removing but do not pull them out! This will damage your real eyelashes and you will be left with sparse eyelashes. Pulling your lashes out can also result in infections or irritability in your eyelid area. If you need your extensions to be removed head to your lash technician who will remove them correctly and safety.
